Consulting services shaped around how your business actually runs.
Every business we work with is different, so rather than fixed packages, we offer a set of focus areas that can be combined depending on what you need most right now.
Strategic Planning
We help ownership teams step back from day-to-day demands and think clearly about direction: which markets or offerings deserve more attention, which should be scaled back, and how to sequence changes so they are realistic given your resources. This usually starts with a structured conversation about your goals, followed by a review of relevant information about your operations and competitive position, and ends with a written plan that lays out priorities in plain language — something you can revisit in six months and still find useful.
Operations & Process Review
Many of the frustrations business owners describe — missed handoffs, unclear responsibilities, repeated small errors — trace back to processes that grew organically and were never revisited. We map how work actually moves through your business today, identify where time and information get lost, and recommend adjustments to workflow, roles, or tools that reduce friction without requiring a complete overhaul of how your team operates.
Growth Advisory
Growth introduces its own set of decisions: when to hire, how to structure new roles, whether current systems will hold up at a larger scale, and how to keep quality consistent as demand increases. We help you think through these decisions in advance rather than reactively, drawing on patterns we have seen play out in other small and mid-sized organizations navigating similar transitions.
Organizational Review
Sometimes the clearest problems are structural: unclear reporting lines, decisions that take too long, or communication gaps between departments or team members. We conduct a candid review of how your organization is structured and how decisions actually get made, then recommend adjustments that improve clarity and speed without unnecessary disruption to your team.
Nonprofit & Community Organization Guidance
Local nonprofits and community organizations face many of the same operational and planning challenges as small businesses, often with fewer staff and tighter margins for error. We bring the same structured thinking to board governance, program planning, and resource allocation, adjusted for the realities of mission-driven work.
Seasonal & Island Business Planning
Businesses operating in seasonal, island, or tourism-influenced economies face planning challenges that generic advice rarely addresses well — staffing around seasonal swings, managing cash flow through slower months, and planning inventory or capacity around ferry schedules and weather. We bring direct familiarity with these dynamics from working within the San Juan Islands community itself.
Every engagement is scoped to fit the actual problem.
We do not sell fixed packages. Instead, each engagement begins with a conversation to understand your situation, followed by a proposed scope of work tailored to what would genuinely help — nothing more, nothing padded.
Initial Conversation
A no-obligation discussion about your business, your goals, and the specific challenges you are facing right now.
Scoped Proposal
A written outline of what we recommend focusing on, how long it should take, and what you can expect to receive.
Hands-On Work
Interviews, document review, and on-site or remote observation, depending on what the engagement calls for.
Findings & Follow-Up
A clear written summary of findings and recommendations, along with time set aside to answer questions and plan next steps.
Independent businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations.
Mem Enterprise works primarily with small and independently owned businesses, community nonprofits, and organizations based in or connected to the San Juan Islands region — though our approach applies just as well to organizations elsewhere facing similar planning and operational questions.
We are intentionally selective about how many engagements we take on at one time. This is not a matter of exclusivity for its own sake — it is simply how we protect the quality of attention every client receives. If our current workload does not allow for a new engagement right away, we will tell you honestly rather than stretch ourselves thin.
If you are unsure whether your situation fits within these focus areas, the best next step is simply to describe what you are dealing with. Many of the most useful engagements began as a conversation about a problem that did not yet have a clear label.
